amorisation of costs

Good afternoon,

I have budget sheet that contains the anual budgetted cost for an item with start and end dates. Assuming that the cost is incurred equally each month I am looking to draw a graph that shows the cumulative cost each month. i.e. is the start date and end date are 3 months apart, and the total cost is £900, month one should show £300, month 2 £600 and month 3 £900

I dont appear to be able to add an attachment for some reason...

Thanks in advance

You should expand the periods of time in the budget sheet into individual dates and allocate amounts accordingly. Then connect the Date table on Date. By doing this you'll be able to create a simple measure that will return allocated amounts for any period of time. It'll be easy as well to create cumulative budget amounts. If you don't do this, you'll be creating convoluted DAX which will not only be complex but also slow.

Hi, can you add sample tables (in format that can be copied to PowerBI) from your model with anonymised data? Like this (just copy and paste the table into the post):

Column1Column2
A1
B2.5

you cannot add attachments here (other than pictures), so if you have a file you have to publish on some file storage service like OneDrive/Google Drive etc. and post a link here
