When I do the relative date it has to say 1/1/2020 to 9/11/2020(todays date)
But it defaults to the max date available.
Can you please let me know if it can default to today's date?
@Anonymous
Relative filter does not have a YTD filter, Relative This year always takes the whole current year.
If you need to set the dates for the current year till today, create a custom column in your date table like [date]<= today().
This will have TRUE / FALSE columns, you can assign it to the page filter to automatically filter dates till today.

How can i get YTD in date ranges?
@Anonymous , In your date calendar you can have date type like this
Date Type = SWITCH(TRUE(),'Date'[Date]=TODAY(),"Today"
,'Date'[Date]=TODAY()-1,"Yesterday"
,'Date'[Date]&"")
You can sort this on date. And use datesytd with date calendar
example
YTD Sales = CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[Sales Amount]),DATESYTD('Date'[Date],"12/31"))
Last YTD Sales = CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[Sales Amount]),DATESYTD(dateadd('Date'[Date],-1,Year),"12/31"))
This year Sales = CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[Sales Amount]),DATESYTD(ENDOFYEAR('Date'[Date]),"12/31"))
Last year Sales = CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[Sales Amount]),DATESYTD(ENDOFYEAR(dateadd('Date'[Date],-1,Year)),"12/31"))
Last to last YTD Sales = CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[Sales Amount]),DATESYTD(dateadd('Date'[Date],-2,Year),"12/31"))
Year behind Sales = CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[Sales Amount]),dateadd('Date'[Date],-1,Year))
To get the best of the time intelligence function. Make sure you have a date calendar and it has been marked as the date in model view. Also, join it with the date column of your fact/s. Refer :
