Visual to display Images with fast rendering time (<2 secs)

Hello there,

actually I am struggling on this, but do not get a satisfying result. Perhaps there are some best-practice ideas on how to handle....

  • We have developed some reports to be shown on a dashboard
    • Why a dashboard? Highly flexible in adding/removing topics and beyond-workspace use of published reports
  • The overall dashboard contains 19 (self produced images), dashboards underneath between 1 and 4 of these pictures
    • User should be guided by small images representing the topic (png / svg format) and to increase the recognition value.
  • All images are stored in a Sharepoint-Folder
  • Power BI Desktop Version is September 2022

Issue is on the following:

  • loading pictures from Sharepoint to Dashboard-Tiles works fine, but security settings need to be fixed (no right on the sharepoint folder =  no picture displayed)
  • Integrating pictures in PBI not possible for SVG-images (Format not listed in File Dialog)
  • Integrating picture s in PNG-Format
    • requires base64 conversion but faces limit-issue in leght of resulting string (some pics >32766 characters)
  • Which visual should be used to display images?
    • Either not certified (Simple Image) , blocked by IT-Admin.
    • Image Pro w. multiple Image ~ 200 € p.a. abonnement, no experience/idea of rendering-speed.
  • Actually I am 'abusing' the Charticulator Visual to display a picture (SVG-Picture, Charticulator can, PBI cannot), but the rendering time is extreeeemly slow while rendering all the 19 images to the dashboard.
    • Solution works for only a few images, but not for 19.
  • On top we face different results on different Browser or within Teams which makes the above mentioned concept unstable, but this will be adressed to the IT-Admin.

Do you know a fast and low price / no price but ntl. recommendable visual to use for this?

Thanks to everyone giving a hint.

Have a nice weekend.

Thomas

I would challenge that.

Hello lbendlin,

thank you very much.

This soluton is highly recommendable, thank you for getting me this valuable hint.

I have heard of this before but was not sure on performance,  hearing about 'chunk & concatenex'.

But this works fine for all the PNG designed.

Once more, thank you very much.

Thomas
