Publishing PowerBI Report for external users

Hi

I'm looking for some help please...

I currently have a set of PowerBI Reports which I want to make accessible to selected external users at other organisations.  Prefereably in a SharePoint page that I have created for this purpose. These reports are linked to on-premis SQL databases and currently do not auto-refresh.

So far I have:

  1. Published the report to a PowerBI Workspace
  2. Embeded the supplied PowerBI link into a SharePoint page.

I then:

Refresh the report through powerBI desktop on my machine, which has access to the on-premis SQL DBs and Publish it.

Go the SharePoint page and eh voila its updated.  So all good...

Unfortunately this access method only works for me! Anyone else gets permission errors.  I've also tried an App Workspace, but cant include external people to my organisation. I'd also like to auto-refresh the report on a schedule.  So finally my queestion is:

Given the scenario above:

  1. PowerBI Report taking data from on-premis SQL
  2. Publishing to Cloud
  3. Pulling back into SharePoint for selected external people to access

What would be the best solution?

I'm assuming I'll need a data Gateway on a standalone always on machine to pull the data automatically, but what do I need to distribute successfully (Power BI Premium, report server, etc).

Thanks for any help

Bob

Well, either the people will need Power BI Pro licenses and you invite them using their work/school account or you can use "Publish To Web"
