Power BI Pro vs Free

We created a Power BI dashboard using an excel as data source and published it. When I shared the dashboard with the intended audience, it is asking the users to upgrade their license to Power BI Pro.

Isn’t this supposed to work with Power BI Free license? Does Excel as data source considered as Power BI Pro content?

Thanks,

Mohit

Hi @MohitPowerBI,

If your file is local, you need a gateway to refresh it. Since gateway is pro feature, so you need the pro license.
For you requirement, you can try to publish it to Onedrive or SharePoint , then direct get data from online datasource, it not need the gateway.

@MohitPowerBI Depends on where the file is. If it's local, and you are using a gateway to refresh the data, then "yes" that is a Pro feature because you are using a gateway.

Thank you, I was able to figure this out.

Actually, I created a new Workspace for the dashboard due to which it was falling under Pro bucket.

Thanks for your help.
