Planview Ad-hoc Analysis OLAP Cubes with Power Bi Services

According to Planview documentation is it possible to connect cubes directly in Power BI Desktop, using SQL Server Analysis Service as datasource type.

Is it possible to use the same data source in Power Bi online Services?

Regards

Hi @marcodea,

You create report using the data from SQL Server Analysis, then publish it to Power BI service. Then the dataset and report exist in Power BI service. In desktop, you can refresh the dataset, if you still want to refresh data in online service, you need to install data gateway (including On-premises date gateway and Personal gateway) if you have pro license or A free 60 Pro Trial license. Add SSAS as date resouce in Gateway. Then you can update the dataset in Power Bi service using gateway. Please review this blog, it describes gateway in details.

You can also create a scredule refresh to update the date automatically. More details, please review: Configuring scheduled refresh.

Angelia

Dear @v-huizhn-msft thanks for you replay.

Your reply is very clear. I'm already using a GW to refresh on premises data source, as excel files and Oracle database.

Your solution is effective also if my Planview server is on cloud? Is there any alternatives without the gateway?

Basically, in this scenario, Power Bi services and Planview are both cloud solution.

regards

Hi @marcodea,

In Power BI service, please select "Get Date" on the left bottom, then connect SQL Server Analysis Services. Please review the article: SQL Server Analysis Services live data in Power BI.

Thanks,
Angelia
