How to automatically update report when local file data is changed?

I have a published Power BI Report that is created by referencing a local .CSV data file.

How can I automatically update a the Power BI Report Online based on changes on the local .CSV datafile?

I know this is possible if the data is being referenced from SQL server via Directquery but I have yet to find a solution for local datasets (.csv,.xlsx)

Thanks

You have 3 choices

1.  Use a gateway - you need power BI pro for this

2.  Use Onedrive or SharePoint Online. Read my article about that here http://exceleratorbi.com.au/data-modelling-onedrive-source-files/

3.  Buy Power Update and have it refresh locally and push an updated workbook. Http://xbi.com.au/update

Hi @Anonymous,

Firstly I would like to clarify one thing that you are misunderstanding: direct query or import mode are just getting data ways. So it's not related sources in local or clouds, you need gateway for on-premise solution( local sources), please refer topic https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-gateway-onprem/. And no need use gateway if your sources are cloud based( like azure sql db, azure dw,...)
