Data on the cloud using on Premise Gateway?

Hi, one of my clients is asking if using on premise gateway, his data will be on the Microsoft cloud.

For security issues he doesnt want the data saved in any cloud service.

If using the on premises gateway, power BI is still extracting and saving the data for the apps like in a personal gateway?

What will happen if for example the database server of the company is off line? the reports will work with a cached data, or simply doesnt show any?

thanks!

@csanz27 This is a much larger question, especially as it relates to a client's misgivings or concerns about where their data is stored. Check out this security page and the white paper that you can download. It will walk through all the different aspects of how data is stored. This is also largely dependant on what type of connection you use. If you are using Direct Query to a database or live connection to a SSAS instance than your data stays in those locations. There are certain metrics cached for viewing, but the data isn't stored in the cloud.

Yes, You are right. If the schedule refresh fails using gateway fails, it will show cached data and reports in the powerbi cloud service.
