This is very frustrating because I have to re-import all of the custom visuals that I had downloaded from the website. Is this a known issue? How can this be prevented? Thank you.
Hi @Anonymous,
What do you mean about "Custom visuals disappear after every monthly update of Power BI Desktop"?
Do you mean that your previously pbix files that contain custom visuals won't work in the new updated version of Power BI BI Desktop(you need to re-import all these custom visuals to make it work again)? Have you received any error? Could you be more precisely with this issue?
Regards
What I mean is that after every monthly Desktop update, in the Visualizations Pane only the out-of-box ones show. All of the .pbiviz custom visualizations that I had downloaded from the Power BI site and imported are gone. I have to re-import them. This happens every time, and there is no error. Thank you for your help.
Hi @Anonymous,
As far as I know, currently, the imported custom visuals are not stored in the Power BI Desktop client but in the actual PBIX file. That means we have to re-import them each time we create a new report(pbix file). Here is a similar thread for your reference.
In addition, you can vote the following ideas about retaining Imported Custom Visuals on Power BI Desktop to improve Power BI on this feature.

Thank you! I didn't know about those enhancement requests. This is horrible design and should be a no-brainer.
