I am teaching students about Power BI. The IT department will not give me the admin password for the lab computers, and Power BI Desktop does not appear to have an Install Option for The User Only (Suggestion!!!)
Is there a way I can setup some exercises involving connecting 2 tables as can easily be done in Desktop?
(Also, I want to upgrade my account to PRO - the instructions do not work/track to what I see on screen to purchase a subscription)

Hi guavaq,
In the end, I found out that I needed to make myself a 365 Admin of my own account
took about 2.5 hours to dig through, including finding out how to get into my Gmail (petersigurdson.net) to set a TXT file in the DNS for my google domain which is hosted by GODADDY.
I teach Networking. I am not sure what Microsoft's vision is for how a "regular" user is supposed to manage this.
Anyway, I have my power bi pro account now --thanks! for all your advice.
And the idea about Power BI Desktop via App Store is GREAT! Got my learners going superbly! Again - thanks!
The power and capacity to generate detailed reports with PowerBI is awesome. I could never get students this interested in Excel. Students were climbing over each other to show their friends new data visualizations they had found.
If you are using Windows 10 or a version of Windows that can connect to the Office Store you can now install Power BI from the Office store, which requires no Admin access.
If you want to uprade your Pro account, and your trial license has expired you can contact your Office 365 Administrator, as this is where you would purchase the required license.
thanks!!!!!
I will work with my learners tomorrow on the Power BI from Office Store!
>>> uprade your Pro account, and your trial license has expired you can contact your Office 365 Administrator Contact your Office >>> 365 Administrator
That would be ME, and I have no idea how to do it! I suppose I may have to fire myself...
Working out of the Office Store should work well.
Here is the link when in Office 365 Admin to scroll down to Purchase Power BI Pro

It would then suggest to me that whilst you might be able to administer Power BI, you do not have Admin permissions for Office 365?
Hi Guavaq - thanks for working to assist me with this!
I am not totally sure - I am paying $11/month for Office 365. That's all I know...
Pleasure, glad to help.
If you are paying $11 a month, I do not think this includes Power BI Pro, as the monthly subscription amount for Power BI is $9.99 USD
yes right - so I want to ADD $10 per month to my bill and get PowerBI pro - That's my goal......
But I cannot find out how to access the menu path. When my 60-day free trial ended I had a page to do it but I was busy, and intended to do it later. Now, I can't find it!!!
again, thanks for the assistance with this!
Here is the link where it takes you to
Hopefully from there you can add the license, or ask the Office 365 Admin to purchase a license for you.
