Unable to connect to Azure SQL using Windows (AD) account

I am unable to connect to an Azure SQL database using an authorized Windows (AD) account.

  1. The AD account has appropriate permissions on the database.
  2. The Azure SQL firewall rules are set to allow connections from my internal network.
  3. In proof of #1 and #2, I am able to connect to the Azure SQL db via SSMS using this same AD account.
  4. I am able to connect to the Azure SQL db via Power BI iff I use an authorized SQL login instead of the AD account.
  5. When I attempt to connect to the db via Power BI with the AD account, I get the following message: "The user was not authorized."

Thanks in advance for your help. This is currently a blocking issue for using Power BI in our solution.

Please vote on this existing idea since it is not supported yet. You can use SQL login as an alternative.
