System Error (process has been terminated) Analyze in Excel

Since two days people of my company can't use the function analyze in Excel.

Step 1 : Start Analyze in Excel

Step 2 : Login to the Dataset Remote Connection

Step 3: System Error (process has been terminated)

After this excel is closing.

We could recreate this behavior for all PCs with the Office Version :

Version 1707 (Build 8326.2076 )

It  is still working with the version :

Version 1707 (Build 8326.2073 )

The function is essential for us and I would be very thankful for any advices or solutions to this issue.

Could you please upgrade your Office version to Version 1707 Build 8326.2087 which released on 8/24/2017 to see the result?

Could you please try to install MSOLAP client lib from here http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/8/2/482E5799-9B8E-4724-8A4C-F301BAE788EE/13.0.3523.4/1033/x64/SQL_AS_OLEDB.msi, and check if it can solve your issue?

Thank you so much Herbert!

This solved our issue, although i don't really understand why it didn't worked out before. We downloaded and installed the MSOLAP lib at least 5 times on different Systems.

(Source was Power Bi --> Analyze in Excel Updates)

Thank you again!

Best,

Christoph

Hey Herbert,

unfortunately the issue is back again. After this weekend 5 users couldn't use the Analyze in Excel function anymore. Same Error as before.

Downloaded the OLAP Client form the Power BI Portal and your link. No Effect

Do you have any Idea how to solve it? It's quite depressing, because we rely on that function.

Best,

Christoph

Please try to date the ODC file on the disk, open it with Notepad, search for the string MSOLAP.7 and remove the dot and the 7 (MSOLAP.7 => MSPOLAP)

When the change is done into the ODC file, just double click in it to launch Excel to see if it helps.

Hey,

there is no string with MSOLAP.7  just MSOLAP. I tried to change it to MSOLAP.7 but without any effect.

Heres the full string;

<html xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"><head><meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/x-ms-odc; charset=utf-8"><meta name=ProgId content=ODC.Cube><meta name=SourceType content=OLEDB><meta name=Catalog content=cb6cec74-7fa3-4d89-a3b4-198dcff5abac><meta name=Table content=Model><title>https://analysis.windows.net/powerbi/api; cb6cec74-7fa3-4d89-a3b4-198dcff5abac Model</title><xml id=docprops><o:DocumentProperties  xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"  xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40">  <o:Name>https://analysis.windows.net/powerbi/api; cb6cec74-7fa3-4d89-a3b4-198dcff5abac Model</o:Name> </o:DocumentProperties></xml><xml id=msodc><odc:OfficeDataConnection  xmlns:odc="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:odc"  xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40">  <odc:Connection odc:Type="OLEDB">   <odc:ConnectionString>Provider=MSOLAP;Integrated Security=ClaimsToken;Data Source=https://analysis.windows.net/powerbi/api;;Initial Catalog=cb6cec74-7fa3-4d89-a3b4-198dcff5abac;Location=https://wabi-north-europe-redirect.analysis.windows.net/xmla?vs=sobe_wowvirtualserver&db=cb6cec74-7f... Compatibility= 1; MDX Missing Member Mode= Error; Safety Options= 2; Update Isolation Level= 2; Locale Identifier= 1033</odc:ConnectionString>   <odc:CommandType>Cube</odc:CommandType>   <odc:CommandText>Model</odc:CommandText>  </odc:Connection> </odc:OfficeDataConnection></xml></head></html>

I can't find any differences in the Systems. It seems to be not working on office 32bit, on my 64bit office it is working but i don't know if it's just for now.

Any other ideas ?

Best,

Christoph

As a workaround i tried to use

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/de-de/excel-dashboard-publisher/#

The connection is working and now Error message. (Dataset and Report).

Still not working with analyze in Excel.
