Refreshing datasets with R script in Power BI Service via Personal Gateway fails

I am trying to set scheduled refresh on a report with an R script (both R script datasource and R script transformation fails). 

When I click "Edit credentials" under "Data source credentials" I can only select Windows as Authentication Method. 

Clicking "Sign in" gives the error shown below.

Accessing a local file via the gateway has Authentication method = WindowsWithoutImpersonation, which works.

It is the latest version of the personal gateway (14.16.6724.2), datasources are set to Public.

I found a similar issue reported already reported internally: CRI 70918868. Will update here if there is any new information.
