Problems with Translation on tables and columns in PowerBI from (SSAS v. 10.0.1.439)

Hi

I'm Experiencing translation problems in PowerBI when uploading my Tabular model from SSAS v. 10.0.1.439 (compatability level 1400)

I have downloaded the latest On-premises data gateway version number: 14.16.6650.1 and it works fine.

In app.powerbi.com I have changed the settings to the same local language as have been made in the tabular model, but it doesn't translate the table names and table columns.

It does however translate the folders and the measures. Is there a setting that I'm missing. On other sql setups, there is no problem with the translation it works fine, however it is not SSAS 2017 and it is with an older version of the on-premises data gateway.

Hi @Sguggi,

Would you please share detail steps about setting translation on SSAS side?

If the machine language set as specified language you defined on SSAS tabular, how about the result when you test the same SSAS tabular model in Power BI desktop?

Best Regards,
Qiuyun Yu

Hi

first of all please vote for these two

In the meantime I have been talking to the Microsoft support, and it turns out that the Power BI service doesn't support Translations at the moment. Unfortunetly for many users. it is very hard to find this restriction but it is in the documentation here.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-onprem#limitations-of-analysis-services-li...

search for : Limitations of Analysis Services live connections

in this documentation is is written "Cell level Formatting and translation features are not supported"

So when you want to make a live connection to a SSAS Tabular model or a MD model, it won't be possible to use you translations set on your model.

I know it has been working, although not supported, also using Live connections. So ofcourse it would be nice to have thus feature supported soon.

My setup is with a SQL 2016 analysis services where it works fine with the translation layer on columns and measures in the Power BI Service, but strangly engough, using SQL 2017 analysis services only folders and measures are translated, not table columns

First of all I use these steps and software when I want to add a translation to my Tabular model

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/analysis-services/tabular-models/translations-in-tabular-models...

Then I use the Tabular Editor (Created by Daniel Otykier ) to make translation easier

https://github.com/otykier/TabularEditor/releases/tag/2.7.1

I can also refer to the Tabular Translator (created by Casper de Jonge)

https://googleweblight.com/i?u=https://www.sqlbi.com/tools/ssas-tabular-translator/&hl=en-IN&tg=110&...

 Hi @v-qiuyu-msft

My PowerBI Desktop is in English, at the moment, I will make a setup where my Power BI Desktop is using the language which I have made the translation to in the SSAS Tabular Model, just to see if the Power BI Desktop can get the translation right.
