Scheduling dashboard by connecting network shared

Hi,

I connected to network drive to get the files and created dashboard, I am able to refresh manually and its getting updated data, but when I schedule the dashboard it is getting failed if my laptop switched off and its getting success if my laptop is on.

I have installed On premise gate way services as well, not sure how this scheduling works.

Hi @Anonymous,

What error message do you get when set schedule refresh for your dataset? Do you install gateway on your laptop? Gateway cannot run if your laptop is turned off, asleep, or not connected to the Internet.

Hi Lydia,

The error message is Personal gate way is offline, but I am getting from other network drive and it is active. So my question is do we need to install Power BI desktop and On promise gateways on the network drive as well (which is coming from other IP).

Where do you install personal gateway? Do you mean that you are able to use the personal gateway to refresh other network drive files?

Yes Lydia,

but its getting failed if my laptop is offline. Do I need to install gateways in the network computer? how this works?

Hi @Anonymous,

Please install on-premises gateway on a computer following the guide in this article, then add data sources of your dataset under the registered gateway, this way, you can use on-premises gateway to refresh your dataset.

Please note that you shouldn't install a gateway on a computer, such a laptop, that may be turned off, asleep, or not connected to the Internet because the gateway can't run under any of those circumstances. In addition, gateway performance might suffer over a wireless network.
