I am running 8.1
Thanks
DOes anyone actually know how to properly diagnose this without 'Professor Google'? Just need a definitive resolution to this pain in the ass install. How can we restart the service if the service can't be installed in the first instance?! Please read the questions posted here properly before attempting to 'guess' the answer.
So far Microsoft can't even help me out on this...
Truly frustrating and disappointing experience with the On Prem Gateway. Weakest link so far.
Hi @Markzolotoy,
As far as I know, this is a timeout issue. It's common if the computer (physical machine or VM) on which we are installing the personal gateway has a single core processor. In your scenario, I would suggest you close any applications and turn off any non-essential processes and try installing again. It would be better if you can restart the computer then try to install personal gateway again.

I restarted computer, tried again. The same.
What's confusng me is that you are the second person who cannot figure it out despite the provided error log file. The file is ridiculously long . What else is needed to solve the problem?
Any news on this one?
@Markzolotoy, 1). Can you find the "On-premises data gateway" service in your Services? 2). Try the net start PBIEgwService command to start the service.
I am gettng:
The service name is invalid.
