GA Data does not match in Desktop - Web/Original

Hey there,

i noticed that in PB Desktop the count of "User" for the Month February is different then the count in PB Web as well as GA original. I have attached sample scrrenshots for the display.

Do you guys have any suggestions for where this decrapancy is coming from? I have tried refreshing, deletion etc.

Hi @Keha,

If User Type dimension doesn't help in your scenario, please check Razum's method in the following similar thread to push client id number into your dimension.

Hi @Keha,

Built-in Google Analytics(GA) connector in Power BI  takes sampled data from Google, and Power BI looks at the historical data which may not sync with the data range you look at in GA .

I would recommend you retrieve data from Google Analytics api directly to Power BI following the instructions in this article, then create reports.

Thanks,

Hello @v-yuezhe-msft,

thank you for your quick response. I am not sure if a possible sampling is the cause of the issue. I believe so because all the other data matches (e.g. session, pageviews, new users, etc.). Also, I found that in the query a User is always shown as 1. There is no difference if it is a recurring user. However, it seems that there is in the Web/Original.

Please see screenshot for the query. In the Visualization "Card" when it summarizes the User, without making a distinction within the recurring user, it gets summarized to a number that is not the true value. So I need the Client ID as well.. However, I do not find it anywhere. Any Ideas?

Thank you

Hi @Keha,

I am not sure that which dimensions & metrics you choose to combine the query and import it into Power BI Desktop.

And I haven’t found client ID in this Google Reporting API, I would recommend you check that if you can add User Type Dimension to the current query, then create measure to calculate number of recurring user. In the above link, you can roll over each dimension and select its checkbox to see all the other metrics that can be combined in the same query.

Thanks,
Lydia Zhang

Hey @v-yuezhe-msft,

thank you for your quick reply! I am trying to get the unique visitors of the page since counting recurring users within Power BI sums up all and does not distingish between identical recurring visitors.  Do you have any suggestions about the measure I can use ?

Thank you,

Kevin
