On the fly data set by adjusting visuals & exporting an XML API

Hi All,

I have a question that I was hoping someone could help me with.

I'm working on a project and the requirements are really pushing the boundary of what I'd expect on a BI project to the point it's arguably no longer BI as we are getting into functional requirements and subsequent development as apposed to just viewing data, however that said I have a feeling what is being asked for can be delivered using Power BI and Azure with .Net development, but I really don't know for certain so would just like a bit of advice.

Here's the scenario...

The proposed solution for the project is that it will utilise HDInsights and Blob Storage for storing data upon ingesting from various data sources (RDBMS, Files & API's) in varying refresh frequencies with the idea that a subset of this data will be used as the data set for a Power BI dashboard that will be used for making fairly real time decisions regarding energy trading.

Now all that is fine, but this next step is where things have taken a more complex step that I'm unsure on.

One of the inputs into the dashboard tiles will be the output of a forecasting model that forecasts what the optimised trades for that time period should be.

These recommendations are just that however, the model doesn't get the final say, that sits with the trader so if they don't like the output of the model they can ignore it.

What they would like to do however would be to accept and send the data when confident with the model suggestions or where not happy to tweak the data within the dashboard until they are happy with it. This could be that they adjust a price point on the graph tile for example and in doing so it will automatically adjust the value in the data set to the new value.

Finally then when happy that the trades appear as the trader wants them to before submitting them to the trading platform there is a requirement to have a button on the Power BI dashboard which upon clicking it will execute an XML file that is sent via an API to an external application (the trading platform) which saves the trader needing to switch screens to the other application and manually enter the trade values in.

Does anyone have any experience of doing anything like this in Power BI and Azure and if so have any advice or guides that they could share if it's possible?

Many Thanks,

Terence

Sounds very much like a custom app with Power BI embedded as part of the application.
