Data source error: We cannot convert the value "[Table]" to type Table

I received the following error:  Data source error:  We cannot convert the value "[Table]" to type Table.  I was not able to find anything helpful online.  I wanted to let users know what caused my error.  I merged a table that was previously merged in the same query so when I expanded the newcolumn on the second merge the process failed.  The important fact of this error is that it did not occur in the development phase on the desktop.  The error occurred in the cloud when I tried to publish the report.

That was the same issue also in my case.

I resolved the issue in Query Editor. I tried to remove queries one by one unless it started to work again (refresh in PBI service). And If I remember well I found out that it was caused by merge step. When I changed transformation rules, it started to work well again.

Best Regards,

Lubos

OK thank you Lubos.

Can you remember what type of transformation rule was the root cause?

It was merge from other table. But I don't remember the real root cause, because I still use merge transformations very often. I reccomend to identify query, which cause the problem and then try to remove merge from this query. If it will not fix the problem, I reccomend to remove transformations step by step in query editor to find out the root cause.

I have the same problem occuring only during schedule refresh. When I refresh data manually from Power BI desktop, it works fine. That's wierd and it is very difficult to debug the problem then.

Thanks for any ideas.

Lubos

I'd like to add that refresh stopped working at the beginning of February 2017, without any change in the dataset. I would appreciate any help, it is very frustrating.

Thanks,

Lubos

Hi,

I confirm that I have encountered the exact same error, and I am struggling to find a resolution. Can any one help?

Kind Regards,

Kieran.

I have the same error.

There is a "fix" posted on this:

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-refresh-enable-fast-combine/

It didn't help me though. Still having this error.
