topic detection using cognitive services

Hi all

I followed the excellent post by @DataChant on text analytics using the Cognitive Services APIs and was wondering if anyone had seen anything on Topic Detection? I have tried unsuccessfully to use the guidance and searched around for examples but can't find anything.

Any help gratefully recieved

thanks Ed

The API is not so new. Last time I tried it (6 months ago), I wasn't sure how to send a POST request with no content, which was required by the API. But now I know how to do it 🙂

Update: I am sorry. My answer above is wrong. The POST with the empty content was a showstopper of a different API. The issue with this API is that it returns HTTP 202 with the operation-location header that contains the URL where the answer will be available. Unfortunately, Power Query doesn't support HTTP 202 due to security reasons. According to the dev team, this is by design. The only way you can implement Topic detection is outside Power Query.

Hey I used cognitive service for sentiments and keywords, i'm not sure what you mean by topic detection, may be you mean "keywords"

Hi @parry2k

I did wonder if they were the same thing, but I noticed this quick start guide in the the text analytics page which is doing something slightly different from key words which I was keen to try out

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cognitive-services/cognitive-services-text-analytics-quick-st...

This is a newly released API which returns the top detected topics for a list of submitted text records. A topic is identified with a key phrase, which can be one or more related words. The API is designed to work well for short, human written text such as reviews and user feedback.

thanks Ed

Aha, that is surely new and seems like it goes across many articles. interesting, I surely used sentiments and key phrases but not topics, would surely like to try.
