Training in the UK?

I am an IT professional with background in coding around MS technoligies (VB & .Net) as well as a fair understanding of SQL Server.

I have been playing with Power BI for a while now (couple of months, on and off) and still face many frustrations in trying to figure out how do this, how to do that, why isn't it working, why do I get this error, etc.

Sure, there is plenty of material available online, bustructurt I am looking for a more ed (possibly classroom based) training programme that will enable me to gain a thorough understanding of Power BI.

I'd like to take my knowledge to the next level beyond simply Getting Data and creating a couple of nice looking charts.

I'd like to understand and utilize the more powerful features of Power BI - such as DAX, M, etc.

I'd like to get the maximum benefit from Power BI in order to deliver solutions that go above and beyond my business users' expectations.

Additionally, are there any industry recognised certifications that focus purely on Power BI as a tool, rather than somthing like MSCE for Business Intelligence.

Hi Gary,

Where are you based exactly in the UK ?

First you can join the London Power BI User Group:https://www.meetup.com/fr-FR/London-PUG/ or Manchester Power BI User Group: https://www.meetup.com/Power-BI-Manchester-Meetup/ .

For the first one, there are very interesting {free} meetups each month !

Second, you can go to the UK Power BI summit which will take place at Hemel Hempstead in a couple of weeks : https://ukpowerbisummit.com/register/ !

Otherwise if you want to learn hard stuff, I suggest you have a look at:

@cwebb who is a Microsoft Data platform MVP, blog & trainings: https://blog.crossjoin.co.uk/ - mostly on Power Query / M

- Sqlbi guyshttp://www.sqlbi.com/, known as the 'Italians' ( @marcorusso & @AlbertoFerrari) who have awesome resources / trainings on DAX, Data Modelling, Performance optimization, Power BI and so many other things...

- PowerPivotProhttps://www.powerpivotpro.com/ (@austinsense@avisingh ) &  http://exceleratorbi.com.au/ (@MattAllington) awesome stuff as well (blogs, books...)

Gil Ravivhttp://datachant.com/ - Power BI, Power Query & M. (@DataChant)

 Other few suggestions:

- Subscribe to Power BI youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/mspowerbi

- Have a look at this free Power Query course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDzTRDkZHPk&t=1954s

I personnally try to learn as much as I can on the web. There are SO MANY good resources thanks to the {growing} Power BI community and our dear Microsoft MVPs Smiley Happy

Regarding your Power BI 'pure' certification question, there is this EdX coursehttps://www.edx.org/course/analyzing-visualizing-data-power-bi-microsoft-dat207x-4 . I have never tried it - I prefer focusing on the websites above !

You can vote to suggest a proper certification here: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/13765254-certification-exam-for-p...

And also have a look at this post on the forum back in January 2016: http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Community-Feedback/Any-plans-for-Microsoft-Power-BI-Certifications/m...

Good luck & Enjoy !!

Tristan's answer pretty much says it all, but if you are looking for classroom-based training in London I'm teaching a general Power BI course in March and Alberto Ferrari will be teaching a DAX-focussed course not long after that:
