Table Visualisation filter

Hello,

I am finding that sometimes if I put a field in the Values section then it reduces the number of rows in the table. Please can you tell me why this happens?

I've tried to recreate the problem in a simple database but haven't been able to recreate the behaviour.

Thanks,

CM

Hey,

I have to admit that this behavior can be something irritating, at least if one is not constantly working with Power BI 😉

First an important conceptual distinction has to be made of the two different types of fields that are available:

  • categorical fields, fields that contain a product name, or a customer name
  • numerical fields, fields like revenue or cost, basically these kind of fields are called measures, and can be aggregated, meaning a sum can be calculated.
Sometimes there are numerical fields (by definition of the data type) like OrderID or ProductID, but can not be aggregated, except counted

The table visual by default shows what's in the table. If you drag a categorical column into the table you see all the values, of this column, but as you may have noticed, just unique values are shown.

If you add a numerical field to the table, the default behavior changed a little, rows are vanishing. This is always the case, if a value does not exist in the table. This can be changed if you activate the option, "Show Items with no data" on of the categorical fields.

I hope this explains your question

Regards
