Hi!
I have several Power BI reports that I create in the desktop version mainly because it is easier to use and less of a hassle to get to than the online version. Each of my reports are then published and shared with several groups of people within my organization. Every week or month (depending on the report) I have to pull new data and refresh the report. Also, on many occasions, I have to change some things on the reports such as visuals.
I don't think there is a way to do this right now but it would make things a heck of a lot easier if Power BI Pro online automatically sent an email to everyone the report is shared with once I republish from the desktop version. I've heard that if I make the changes and refresh the data using the online version that it will send an automatic email to everyone but the issue is that then the original .pbix file on my computer will be out of date. Also, I've tried using Sharepoint to get the same automatic email effect but if you republish the desktop report then it breaks all sharepoint subscriptions. Is Power BI currently working on getting a feature like this? Ultimately, I feel like I should be able to use my desktop version, republish the report (using the same file name) and have Power BI automatically notify all shared users the report has been updated. Is there a way for me to get this done now? Or, will I have to wait until Power BI decides to add the feature?
Thanks for your help!
Stacy
You should be able to have your users subsribe to the Dashboard online, which will send them an email every time it has been updated.
That's what you would think but it doesn't send an email when the Dashboard is updated and republished using the Power BI Desktop. Unfortunately, it will only send an update if the change is made using Power BI Online. However, if the change is made using Power BI Online then the original .pbix file on our desktop would be out of date.
