Power BI Desktop error - "We weren't able to restore the saved database model"

Hi,

We have the latest version of Power BI (2.42.4611.701).

We have the latest version of Power BI Gateway (1.12.5982.1)

If there is a newer version let me know as this is where the internet took us for the gateway download.  Our DBA looked in a different spot and said there was a newer file, but I do not have that number, so I am assuming they are the same.

Here is the errors message "We weren't able to restore the saved database model".

We also got: "Microsoft Power BI Desktop could not start properly due to error with the named pipe connections.  Please click on the link below for details."

The solution was to update and restart the gateway associated with this report.  Done.

Update to the latest software on the server it is related too.  Done.

He cannot seem to open the file unless we grant him administration access, which is the last one on the solution list.  We have tested given him an admin account to test and it works.  What does not work is when he uses a non admin account.

We do not put Power BI Desktop on local laptops.  The application only exists on servers that exist at the DataWarehouse.  There is less impact on the network when users are creating reports.

Any assistance on this subject would be appreciated.

We are having a similar  issue. One of our Power BI reports are suddenly not able to open for any user. Only get the error message:

"We weren't able to restore the saved database model"

Any suggestions on how to fix this. Do not want to have to start all over. Have tried to upgrade to the latest version, but do not think that is the Issue.

First user reported that he had cancelled a query update where something had gone wrong.

hi @Anonymous,

any luck with the issue??? I too got stuck at this issue. One of my .pbix file is failing to open. Runing latest october 2017 update. Created that .pbix model on august update.

Lemme know if you have found any way out.

@Mike_Simm

The latest version of PBI Desktop is 2.42.4611.901

The latest version of PBI Personal Gateway is 1.13.6044.1

The latest version of PBI On-premises data gateway is 1.15.6170.1

Is the PBIX file created by himself or others? Can he open some other PBIX files?

Best Regards,

Herbert

Yes, he can open other files.

We gave him administrator access on the server as we use thick clients on the desktop tools to reduce impact on the network.  Noe he does not thave the issue anymore.
