Monthly values in excel columns - how to display?

Hi guys,

as mentioned in the subject - I have a huge excel table which I use as data source in Power BI.

Every row is another customer, and in several columns there are monthly values for different cost types.

E.g. machine costs have 12 columns for jan to dec, human costs, etc...

How can I show these values, e.g. machine and humane costs for one row in a line diagram, which has the months on the main axis?

Thanks!

Regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Is this what you are trying to eventually get by customer?

Capture.PNG

I created this sample dataset based on your description

Capture2.PNG

etc.

You need to do some data manipulation.

When you import to Power BI, go to edit queries, select the Customer column and choose to unpivot other columns.

You should get soemthing similar to this

Capture3.PNG

Select the Attribute column and split by the right-most space delimiter as in the picture in order to get two different columns, one for the type and one for the month

Capture4.PNG

Do the necessary columns renaming, in my case I chose the below

Capture5.PNG

Close and Apply.

In the report canva, choose the line chart visual and drag the fields as below

Capture6.PNG

Create a slicer for the Customer column in which you will choose the customer of your choice and the lines wil interact accordingly.

Hope it was clear enough.

Tell me if it helped!
