How to replace a value in a date column?

There is a data entry error in a date field that I'm trying to replace using the "Replace Values" in the query editor.  I want to replace "5/8/2016" with "5/7/2016".  however, when try to do this using the "Replace Value" function, it doesn't change.  Is their a formatting issue that needs to be done first?

There should be no issue if the column is of type date. Notice that dates don't come with surrounding double quotes.

This is how it looks like, including the generated code (note" I'm configured on culture "en-US"):
