Function 'COUNT' is not allowed as part of calculated column DAX expressions on DirectQuery model

Power BI doesn't allow creating calculated columns with aggregation functions (count, sum, min etc.) in the Direct Query mode. Is there a way around this limitation, perhaps, using Query Editor? I can only create a measure but measures won't work for the types of visuals I need to use with this column.

My (sumplified) problem is: I have two tables: Processes and ProcessSteps with a one-to-many relationship via ProcessID as a primary key. I need to add a column [StepCount] to the Processes table that would contain a number of steps per each ProcessID.

Would appreciate any insights. Thanks.

This is DAX Formula Compatibility limitation. When using DirectQuery mode, aggregation functions like COUNT, SUM, etc are supported in measure only. For more details, please see: DAX Formula Compatibility in DirectQuery Mode.
