CPU I7-7820HQ or Xeon E3-1535M V6

Dear,

High end laptops from HP use the Xeon E3 or Core I7 CPU. Is one or the other better for Power BI dashboad and Excel? Xeon is way more expensive, is it worth the price for better performance?

Regards

I think you need to do same performance tests on these two laptops to get the result. You can take a look at this article, which provide a benchmark workbook to test the performance. You can customize the tests based on your daily work.

Best Regards,
Herbert

That's not really possible as I need to order the laptops. I don't want to order them both to be able to test.

Xeon is better in multi core, multiple treads ad the same time.  I7 would do almost as well with single tread processing where the CPU speed is the most important.  Price difference for E3 is +40% and the CPU speed is only 7% better.

To be able to make the right chose I would need to know

* Power BI dashboard processes single tread or multiple tread

* Excel processes single tread or multiple tread

* PowerPivot processes single tread or multiple tread

Regards

Dieter
