Backround colour in visuals lost when pinned to dashboard

Is this a bug? is there a feasable workaround which obviously doesn't involve re-formatting visuals to allow for pinning to dashboards?

Here are some screenshots:

Hi @PaulDBrown,

I'm afraid this is by design. Please vote up an idea here. How about "pin live page"?

Hi Dale,

I have actually found a (clumsy) workaround, based on your suggestion of pinning a live page. It basically involves:

1. Creating a new page in the Desktop file with the visuals I want to include in the dashboad.

2. Publish the file to the service.

3. Add the new page to the dashboard by "pinning live page".

4. Go back to the report on Desktop. Hide the new report page with the visuals. (If you want don't want the page to be visible, to keep the number of pages to the strictly necesssary or keep the number of report pages down for example.)

5. Re-publish the file.

Even though the page is hidden, the pinned live page is still visible in the dashboard. The caveat is that a user can actually navigate to the hidden report page from the dashboard itself, but it is a minor concern in my case. (I can always place a text warning saying the report page is "hidden" or some other appropriatly relevant message).

A good compromise until we have the option to keep the oginal formats in the pinned visuals, albeit clumsy.

PS: I think I deserve an auto-induced "accept as solution" click, so with your permission I'll do so!!

Hi Dale,

I've just realised that even though pinning a live page does solve the Dashboard issue, the problem persists when you actually try to print the page. Are you aware of any solution in the forecoming months?

Thanks for your help,

Paul.

@v-jiascu-msftThanks Dale for clarifying that.

Why on earth is this "by design"? In other words, why does pinning a Live Page keep the original formatting but individual visuals don't? I would have thought it was more logical to keep  the original format "by design", and offer  to change the pinned visual's format as an option.

Having said that, what exactly does the option "Keep current theme" actually refer to in the pinning visual dialog box?

As regards this particular case, I was avoiding pinning a live page since I want to pin the "summary" visuals providing the "big" numbers; the page has a matrix with a lot of detail which I feel is too messy for a dashboard, which I tend to use to highlight the main insights and avoid the "nitty-gritty"...
