As we speak, thousands of political conversations and comments about the UK 2017 General Election are happening on Twitter. Many of these messages are offering insight, influence and speculation regarding the parties involved leading up to Election Day on Thursday 8th June 2017.
Looking at the narrative contained within the tweets can lead to questions being raised:
- Can positive or negative sentiment within tweets influence the voting public?
- Which parties are getting mentioned the most and is volume more important than sentiment?
- Will the volume reflect the result?
Using Microsoft Flow, the process watches for tweets with the hashtag #GE2017, passes the tweet text through Azure Cognitive Services to detect sentiment and finally loads the data into an Azure SQL Server database.
Once the tweets are available in the database, they are then able to be analysed and presented using Microsoft Power BI.
